Budget 2020

#FredBudget 2020: City delivers budget that will facilitate and support community growth

On December 16, 2019 Fredericton City Council voted in favour of a $124.4 million General Fund budget intended to facilitate and support growth in the community.  There is no tax rate increase in the budget, and all existing programs and services are maintained, while keeping pace with inflation.

$19.9 million is earmarked for the capital budget and more than $782,238 will be provided in grants to community groups.

The property tax rate per $100 assessment will remain at $1.4311 for the inside rate and $107.33 for the outside rate.  The tax base will rise by 4.09 per cent: 1.41 per cent from new construction and 2.68 per cent from market assessment increases. The 2020 Budget achieves $466,340 in efficiencies. The City has saved $9.7 million in efficiencies since 2012.

Council earlier approved a Water & Sewer Utility operating and capital budget of $22.86 million. The quarterly combined water & sewer rate will move to $0.93/m³ and the quarterly service charge is being increased from $113.90 to $117.20. The rate increase will support much needed reinvestment in replacing old infrastructure to keep our water safe and clean.
