Mayor Brad Woodside

Photo of Brad WoodsideMayor Brad Woodside is the longest-serving mayor in the history of Fredericton.

First elected to City Council in 1981, he was elected Mayor in 1986, serving five straight terms before resigning in 1999 to take a run at Provincial politics. He was returned as Mayor in 2004 and on May 12, 2008  he was re-elected to his record seventh term as Mayor.

Mayor Woodside is an award-winning public speaker and a  former radio talk show host and announcer.

Mayor Woodside is the founding Chairman of the "Try Hugs, Not Drugs" Huggie Project of the Nashwaaksis Lions Club, a drug awareness program for young children. He has delivered talks on substance abuse in Paris, France, Jerusalem, Israel, Germany, and most recently at an International Symposium in Italy.

Currently, he is actively involved with Portage New Brunswick, a residential program providing long-term residential treatment for youth with drug dependencies.

Mayor Woodside is affiliated with a number of associations and organizations. He was a 1995 recipient of the Paul Harris Fellowship Award and was nominated for a Chamber of Commerce Distinguished Citizen Award.

Mayor Woodside served in the Royal Canadian Air Force, is a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 4, and the Royal Canadian Air Force Association, Beaverbrook Wing, in Fredericton.

Mayor Woodside is married to the former Anne Sneyd. Together they have three children, Troy, Michael and Carrie.
