City Developing Responsible Property Stewardship Strategy

Photo of Stephen ChaseFredericton (September 15, 2008) - The City of Fredericton is developing a comprehensive strategy to identify, address and reduce irresponsible acts by residents and property owners who do not respect the rights of others.

"The Responsible Property Stewardship Strategy will target those who do not respect the rights of other residents to reasonable enjoyment of their property," said Councillor Stephen Chase during today's Council-In-Committee meeting at City Hall.

The City has been wrestling with this issue for several years. It will utilize existing research and accumulated experience and review how other municipalities have addressed the various issues associated with improved responsible property stewardship.

"We will conduct new research and examine policy, legislative and other options to come up with recommendations to address or mitigate these issues," said Coun. Chase. "We will also review our current policies and compare them to what other cities are doing."

The City's Development Committee will receive regular updates on the status of the strategy development during its regular monthly meetings with Council to receive a final report to consider in the new year.
