Tree Commission Members & their Vision

Mission Statement 

The Tree Commission is dedicated to the 

enhancement, protection and promotion of Fredericton’s Urban Forest

 Mandate 

To act as stewards for the Urban Forest.

To ensure high quality tree care through out the Urban Forest.

Commission Members

Councillor Stephen Chase, Debby Peck, John Torunski, Wayne MacKay, Garth Nickerson (Chair), Dr. Les Magasi, David Malcolm, Walter Bidlake and Julie Singleton.  City Staff:  Don Murray (Manager of Parks and Trees), Neil Trebble (Forest Technician) and Heidi Johnston (Recorder).

Our Role

1. Provide advice and recommendations to mayor, council and staff on issues related to the Urban Forest 
2. Act as a resource for city staff, special interest groups and the public on matters related to the Urban Forest
3. Monitor trends and forecast future impacts on tree health and urban forest sustainability
4. Provide input on Urban Forest issues in the Municipal Plan Review process
5. Evaluate and assist with the development of municipal policies, ordinances and activities related to the urban forest.
