Fredericton (may 25, 2010) – City Council today approved the appointment today of Councillor Dan Keenan as Deputy Mayor for Fredericton for a one-year term. He replaces Councillor Bruce Grandy, whose one-year term as Deputy Mayor expired May 25, 2010.
With the appointment, Deputy Mayor Keenan becomes and ex officio member of all of the City’s Standing Committees in the absence of the Mayor. He will Chair the City’s Planning & Priorities Committee, sit on the Mayor’s Working Committee on Community-University Relations Committee and will be the City’s representative to the Canadian Capital Cities Organization.
Before being appointed Deputy Mayor, he served as Chair of the City's Development Committee, Chair of the Negotiations Liaison Committee and sat on several other committees.
Deputy Mayor Keenan was first elected to City Council in May 2004 and is currently serving his second four-year term as City Councillor after being re-elected in 2008. He works for River Valley Health in Fredericton as the Director of Financial Services and represents Ward One (Douglas area) in Fredericton North.
