Fredericton (January 27, 2006) - The City of Fredericton will host an affordable housing presentation on Sunday, January 29, 2006 featuring Dr. Avi Friedman, a renowned professor of Architecture from McGill University.
The presentation will take place between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. in the Council Chamber at Fredericton City Hall. Dr. Friedman will make a formal presentation at 2:30 p.m. Anyone interested in innovative and affordable housing is invited to attend and see new designs developed just for Fredericton.
Dr. Friedman is known nationally and internationally for his housing innovation. He is the author of six books on the subject, and in 2000, he was selected by Wallpaper magazine as one of 10 people from around the world "most likely to change the way we live."
He spoke at the Third Age Centre's housing conference in Fredericton back in November 2004. During 2005, he worked with the City of Fredericton, property owners, and an architects' graduate class to produce designs for community-based housing on six sites in Fredericton.
In his presentation, Dr. Friedman will speak about the designs, site plans, building elevations, and special features of the six projects. The public, including homebuilders, developers, and architects are invited to attend. There will be an opportunity to ask questions.
The local property owners involved include Fredericton Non-Profit Housing, York Developments, St. Mathews Lutheran Church, Colpitts Developments, Ralph and Mavis Brown - Canada Street, Walter Schenkel - Co-Housing Proposal; and, the City of Fredericton - Doak Road.
Refreshments will be served. Parking is free. Those attending are asked to use the front doors of the City Hall. Persons with disabilities should use the back entrance to the building.
On Monday, January 30th, Dr. Friedman will also speak at a breakfast sponsored by the Fredericton Home Builders' Association and make a presentation to Fredericton City Council at the regularly scheduled Council-in-Committee meeting.
