Applications Now being Accepted for Cultural Capital Grants

Fredericton (November 5, 2008) - Applications from arts and cultural organizations are now being accepted for the $100,000 Fredericton Cultural Capital Grant Program, one of 15 projects announced last month as the City celebrates its designation as a 2009 Cultural Capitals of Canada designation.

"We are inviting organizations to propose ideas for special projects that help celebrate our Cultural Capitals of Canada status," said Councilor Dan Keenan, chair of Development Committee.  "This is a one-time funding program and the successful projects will be those that engage our community, celebrate our unique culture, or leave a legacy for future celebration of our cultural community."

Grants are available from a minimum of $10,000 to a maximum of $30,000.

Being designated a Cultural Capital of Canada by the federal government resulted in Fredericton receiving up to $500,000 from Canadian Heritage for projects during its 2009 Cultural Capitals of Canada year.  The City of Fredericton has also contributed an additional $150,000, towards the Cultural Capitals of Canada programming (by setting aside $50,000 each year for 2007, 2008, 2009).

This funding program is in addition to the City's regular annual arts, culture and heritage funding program regularly offered at the beginning of the year.

Applications and guidelines are available online at www.fredericton.ca, by clicking on the Cultural Capitals of Canada logo.  The deadline for applications is December 19, 2008.
