City of Fredericton Committee on Affordable Housing

Photo pf Eldon Toner, Joanne Thomson and Councillor Mike O'BrienThe City of Fredericton's Committee on Affordable Housing is a network of municipal, provincial and federal representatives, community groups, off-reserve aboriginal representatives and housing developers dedicated to improving access to affordable housing.

Created by City Council in November 2006, the Committee acts as an advocate for the homeless, the working poor and those with special housing needs to improve their quality of life through affordable housing.

It serves as a coordinator for the stakeholder agencies and links those living with the problem to those who can provide solutions.

Mission

The Affordable Housing Committee:

  • Encourages and supports the production of affordable housing.
  • Raises public awareness of issues, needs and opportunities
  • Promotes affordable housing as good social policy
  • Provides a forum for coordination, communication, partnerships, and innovative solutions to address community needs
  • Maximizes uptake of government funding programs
