Call to Local High School Students
In Motion: A 2009 Cultural Capital of Canada Community Art Project for Youth
Fredericton, NB – The City of Fredericton invites student artists from Fredericton High School, Leo Hayes High School, and École Sainte Anne to participate in a 2009 Cultural Capitals of Canada legacy project.
Students who volunteer to be part of the project will work collectively to create an installation of two-dimensional artwork for the lobby of the future Grant-Harvey Centre. The theme of the artwork is ‘In Motion’ and will depict images in celebration of this theme. Local artist Jennifer Krueger will oversee the project and provide art instruction and creative guidance to the young artists.
Students who are selected to participate will dedicate about 40 hours to the project between December and February. The work will be broken out into day-long workshops (see schedule below). Lunch and beverages will be provided. The workshops will take place in the multi-purpose room at the Charlotte St. Arts Centre, 732 Charlotte St. There is no cost to participate.
The project is an opportunity for students to work with a professional artist, learn art techniques, and to participate in a design process from conception to completion. The collaborative efforts will result in the creation of artwork that will be a legacy of Fredericton’s year as a Cultural Capital of Canada.
