Third Annual Affordable Housing Day Forum November 18 at Crown Plaza

Photo of Mike O'BrienFredericton (November 9, 2009) – Fredericton’s third annual Affordable Housing Day will be held on November 18, 2009.  The theme for this year’s event is:  Affordable Housing:  Then & Now.

Affordable Housing Day 2009 features an information session and panel discussion about the evolution of affordable housing in Fredericton. It is being held at the Crowne Plaza Fredericton from 11 a.m. to 4:30 pm.

Mayor Brad Woodside has declared November 18 to be Affordable Housing Day in Fredericton.

“Adequate, suitable, secure and affordable housing is a basic human right and a cornerstone to building stronger, more vibrant communities,” said Councillor Mike O’Brien, Chair of the City’s Committee on Affordable Housing. “Affordable Housing Day will highlight local examples of successful affordable housing developments and the panel discussion will share best practices and lessons learned.”

The event is sponsored the City of Fredericton, along with the New Brunswick Department of Social Development, Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, New Brunswick Non-Profit Housing Association, and the Fredericton Community Action Group on Homelessness and Service Canada.

Affordable Housing Day will also feature a keynote address by Kelly Lamrock, New Brunswick Minister of Social Development and Minister responsible for Housing.
