Queen's Square Heritage Designation Study

Photo of Queen Square Heritage Designation StudyThe City of Fredericton's draft Queen's Square Heritage Designation Study is now complete and ready for review.  The study defines a process to preserve and protect the lands, buildings and structures of historic or architectural significance in the Queen's Square neighbourhood.

The Queen's Square Neighbourhood study area comprises approximately ten blocks in Fredericton's east town plat bounded by Regent, George, Church and McLeod streets, and includes about 250 buildings.  These structures are predominately residential buildings comprised of single-detached houses or small apartment buildings.

The study gives information on the regulatory framework for heritage designation.  It also provides a detailed heritage character overview for the study area.  As part of this exercise, an extensive heritage inventory and evaluation was carried out.  The result is a plan showing proposed boundaries for the expanded preservation area.

As part of the process, Fredericton City Council has received a presentation on the study and its recommendations.  The study was also been presented to the Preservation Review Board, the Queen's Square Neighbourhood Association, and the Fredericton Heritage Trust for information and feedback.  Following the public meeting, notification will go out to the affected property owners and the process will continue.
