Salmon Run
Gallery Connexion is making an exceptional tribute to the Atlantic salmon with its summer-long Salmon Run Exhibition. The exhibit idea was conceived two years ago when the City's Heritage & Culture Division was seeking projects to propose in its bid to be designated a 2009 Cultural Capital of Canada by Canadian Heritage.
Gallery Connexion saw this project as a great way to use art and engage artists to celebrate the Atlantic salmon and our ties to the mighty fish.
Local artists were commissioned to use the 24-inch fiberglass salmon form as their canvas to create individual pieces for this special project. The scope for the artists' creativity is endless and exciting including a variety of materials and techniques such as metal, paint, collage, mixed-media.
The salmon will be displayed at 23 various locations in Downtown Fredericton from June until mid-September.
Gallery Connexion is Fredericton's artist-run centre, celebrating 25 years in 2009. In mid-September Gallery Connexion is opening at its new location at 470 York Street in the Chestnut Complex and will include galleries, studios and a café.
