2016 Construction Projects

Annual repairs to the roads, curbs, sidewalks, traffic signals,and crosswalks, as well as water and sewer pipes throughout the City of Fredericton, are either currently under way or planned as part of the City’s construction program.

Listed on this page are the projects that are expected to cause significant traffic disruptions involving street closures as the City works to build and maintain infrastructure in a sustainable and affordable manner.  The start and completion dates will be added when available.

LIST OF MAJOR PROJECTS

Aberdeen Street (York Street to Carleton Street) – Water and Sewer installation, full roadway upgrade and realignment, curbing, and multi-use trail installation.

Carleton Street (Brunswick Street to Queen Street) – Sanitary and storm sewer upgrades in addition to new asphalt surface. Carleton Street construction begins on Monday morning, June 13th. The first phase of construction will take place between Brunswick Street and King Street.  This block of Carleton Street will be closed to all traffic for approximately (4) weeks.

Cliffe Street (McLaren to Sunnybrae) – Installation of multi-use trail on eastern side of right-of-waybehind the existing curb.

Dave Kelly Trail (Hanwell Road to Patience Lane) – Crossing of Route 8 ramps.

Dundonald Street – Smythe Street to Northumberland Street) – Storm renewal, roadway, curb, and sidewalk reconstruction. Monday, August 15, 2016, construction will begin on Dundonald Street between the intersections of Northumberland Street and Smythe Street. Westbound traffic will be maintained during construction however Dundonald Street will be closed to all east bound traffic which will be detoured via Smythe Street, Connaught Street, Northumberland Street to Dundonald Street.Construction is expected to be ongoing for the next three weeks.

Greenwood Drive Phase 3 (Civic 81 to Birch Cresent) – Water, sanitary, and storm renewal, culvert replacement, full roadway reconstruction including sidewalk.  Greenwood Drive will be closed to through traffic during construction. Tuesday, May 10th, Greenwood Drive will be closed to all traffic between Eatman Avenue and Birch Crescent. Vehicles will be detoured via Riverside Drive and Barker’s Point Bypass. Construction signs will be in place to warn motorists of the closure. Construction is expected to be ongoing for the next (12) weeks. 

Hawkins Street (Royal Road to Wilcox Street) – Water and sanitary sewer renewal, partial storm sewer renewal, full roadway reconstruction including curb renewal. Beginning Monday August 8th, Hawkins Street will be closed to through traffic between the intersections of Royal Road and Ebony Drive. This closure is necessary for work required on the City’s underground infrastructure. Construction is expected to be ongoing for the next (9) weeks. Transit will follow the detour through Ebony Drive, Wilcox Street, Dykeman Street,  Maxwell Street and back to Royal Road.  

Hartt Street (Sunset Drive to Jewett Street) – Water, sanitary, and storm renewal, roadway rebuild, curb upgrade and new sidewalk installation from Sunset Drive to Kent Street. Beginning Tuesday May 17th, Hartt Street will be closed to through traffic between the intersections of Sunset Drive and Jewett Street. Construction is expected to be ongoing for the next (9) weeks. Hartt Street residents have been notified and construction signs will be in place.

Lombardi Lane Infrastructure Upgrades (William Street to Ring Road) – Water, sanitary, and storm sewer renewal, full roadway reconstruction including curbs, turnaround construction at Ring Road. Beginning Monday August 8th, Lombardi Lane will be closed to through traffic. This closure is necessary for work required on the City’s underground infrastructure.  
Construction is expected to be ongoing for the next (8) weeks.Area residents have been notified and construction signs will be in place.

Marysville Trunk Sewer (along trail from Canada Street to Ramsey Street) – Sanitary sewer upgrade with asphalt surface upgrade on trail.  The trail will be closed at this location during construction. Beginning Monday, July 4th, Canada Street will be reduced to (1) lane of traffic near the Murray Avenue intersection. Construction crews will be working in the area to upgrade a sanitary sewer main and expect Canada Street to be reduced to (1) lane of traffic for three days (Monday-Wednesday) during working hours.  During this time (working hours only), access to Murray Avenue will be restricted.  All traffic on Murray Avenue will be redirected to Young Street. Area residents have been notified.  Traffic control personnel will be onsite and construction signs will be posted.

McEvoy Street (Neil Street to Civic #728) – Water and storm sewer renewal in addition to new asphalt surface. 

McLeod Hill Road Infrastructure Extension (Civic 471 to City Limits) – Water and sanitary sewer installation including full roadway reconstruction including ditching.  McLeod Hill road will be closed to through traffic during construction. The City of Fredericton Engineering and Operations Department wishes to advise motorists that beginning Monday, May 30th, McLeod Hill Road will be closed to all traffic between civic numbers 471 and 989. Construction is expected to be ongoing for the next (22) weeks.

Northside Trail Culvert (On trail between Clark Street and Neil Street) – replacement of Grieves Creek Culvert.  The trail will be closed at this location during construction.

Regent Street Infrastructure Upgrades (Priestman Street to Route 8 Overpass) – Water, sanitary and partial storm renewal, roadway rebuilding, partial curb and sidewalk reconstruction, and intersection upgrades.  Traffic detours will be in place during construction which is expected to last from June 1 to September 6, 2016.  Expect delays.

River Street (2015 construction limits to the north) – Asphalt resurfacing and roadway reconstruction.

Smythe Street Booster Station – Interior piping and pump upgrades.

Valley Trail (Hanwell Road to Rookwood Avenue) – Watermain installation.  The trail will be closed at this location during construction.

Vanier Industrial Drive (Between Goodine Street and Leah Street) – Culvert replacement.  A detour will be in place during construction.Construction on Vanier Industrial Drive is scheduled to begin tomorrow, Wednesday, June 15th. The work will result in a full road closure on Vanier Industrial Drive between Goodine Street and Leah Street.  Traffic will be detoured around the construction site via Lincoln Road and Wilsey Road, construction signs will be in place. The road closure is required to accommodate the replacement of a large culvert and construction is expected to be ongoing  for approximately (5) weeks.

Wastewater Treatment Plant Upgrade – UV disinfection system upgrade.

Westwood Drive (Birchcroft Drive to Islandview Drive through Park) – Water, sanitary, and storm renewal, full roadway reconstruction including curbs.

Wilmot Park Splash Pad – Phase 2 of splash pad construction.

Youngs Crossing Booster Station - Interior upgrades to building including pumps.
