Artist Call to Paint Bike Racks

The City of Fredericton is inviting submissions from local artists for a bike rack art project.

As part of that effort the City will be placing artfully painted bike racks in select high profile locations.  A local artist will be selected to paint ten bike racks, which will be on display this summer. The City has placed triangle-shaped sheets of metal on each end of ten of its existing bike racks to allow a space for art.

“One of the City’s Culture Goals is to increase opportunities to experience art in everyday lives,” says Coun. Steven Hicks, Chair of Community Services Committee. “This is another example of how we can bring art and culture into the City’s physical infrastructure to make Fredericton a more vibrant place.”

Submission Guidelines

Artists are asked to submit the following:

  • A brief overview of qualifications and past experience with similar commissions.
  • A design proposal including a written description with respect to the theme.
  • Sketch(s) of the proposed design. Please indicate if you would use the same design on all 10 racks or use multiple designs.
  • Indicate the type of paint and proposed design application process appropriate for outdoor weather, and timeframe needed to complete the project.

The budget for this project is $2,000, including the cost of materials. Artists must email their submission to culture@fredericton.ca. The deadline for submissions is May 31, 2017.
