City and YMCA to explore development of indoor pool, field house, multi-purpose space

The City of Fredericton is pleased to announce a partnership with the YMCA of Fredericton to explore the development of a new competitive indoor pool, field house and multi-purpose space for the region.

As part of the process, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) will be prepared to help address matters related to the design, location and programming for such a facility.  It will also need to deal with capital costs, funding options, and operating models.

A timeline for this process has not been identified, but the parties are aware of the urgency of the matter.  The City and YMCA welcome other interested partners to join the process.

“The City of Fredericton values the partnership we already have with the Fredericton YMCA and the vision they have for our community.  They are one of the biggest users of our gym time and already provide aquatic space.  This announcement continues our leadership role on this file.”

                --Deputy Mayor Kate Rogers

“The YMCA of Fredericton is very pleased to partner with the City of Fredericton to explore this development.  A project like this with a partner like the City of Fredericton aligns perfectly with our vision of building “Healthy People for Healthy Communities.”
