City Appoints Imagine Fredericton Citizens Advisory Committee Members

June 13, 2016 - City Council has appointed a new committee of community volunteers to provide input on the development of a new Growth Management Strategy and Municipal Plan. Members of the Imagine Fredericton Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC) were appointed at the regular Council meeting on June 13, 2016.

Imagine Fredericton is the exciting community process the City is using to create this new strategy and plan, which will provide a policy framework to guide the city’s physical development over the next 25 years.

The City selected residents from all walks of life with vision, energy and passion for the community to work collaboratively on the CAC to advise City Council on the new municipal plan. The committee will act as a community sounding board, advising the project team (comprised of municipal staff and consultants) and City Council on community-based issues during the plan’s development. Committee members will also serve as ambassadors within the community to actively promote public involvement in the planning process.

The committee members are:

  • Aamir Jamal, PhD – Assistant Professor of Social Policy and International Development, School of Social Work, St. Thomas University.
  • Beth Barrett, AANB, AIA – Owner/Architect, Beth Barrett Architect.
  • Charlie Gaffney, MEd – Department Head, New Brunswick College of Craft and Design.
  • Helen Jean Newman – Retired (formerly with the Department of Tourism and Parks, Province of New Brunswick).
  • Jeffrey St-Pierre, MEM – Industrial Electrical Apprentice (and former Resource Management Officer, Parks Canada).
  • Julia Ramirez, MBA – Population Growth Specialist, Ignite Fredericton.
  • Lori MacMullen, BA – Executive Director, Canadian University Council of Chief Information Officers and Business Fredericton North Board Member.
  • Mike Davis, BA – President, The Radical Edge; President/Co-Owner, Crabbe Mountain, and Executive Member of Downtown Fredericton Inc.
  • Sandi MacKinnon –  Executive Director, Social Innovation Fredericton (GFSI) and Volunteer Greater Fredericton, and President, Devon Middle Home and School.
  • Mike O’Brien – Mayor, ex officio member.

Committee members were selected following a public call for applications. Applicants were evaluated on the basis of experience, demonstrated ability to collaborate, and responses to questions asked. In the interest of reflecting a broad cross-section of the community, additional consideration was given to gender balance, demographic cohort representation, linguistic and ethnic composition, and neighbourhood representation. Committee members will serve for the duration of the municipal plan process (approximately 12 to 18 months).
