City of Fredericton Holiday Hours and Schedules 2016

The public is advised of the following holiday hours and schedules related to City of Fredericton facilities and programs. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from Mayor Mike O’Brien, Fredericton City Council and all municipal employees.

Free Parking on December 23

To help with your last minute shopping, here’s our gift to you… Downtown shoppers are advised that the City of Fredericton will be offering free parking on Friday, December 23 at all on-street parking meters, all city owned parking lots and all three parking garages including the East End Garage.

Holiday Hours at Fredericton City Hall

Fredericton City Hall, municipal offices at 335 Queen Street, 514 Queen Street, and the York Street Fire Station will observe the following hours during the holiday season.

  • December 23 - 8:15 am to 12:00 pm
  • December 26 and 27- Closed
  • December 28 and 29 - 8:15 am - 4:30 pm
  • December 30 - 8:15 am to 12:00 pm
  • January 2 - Closed
  • January 3 - 8:15 am to 4:30 pm

The Fredericton police station administrative offices, and the North and South NAT offices will close at 12 pm on December 23 and December 30 and will be closed on December 26 and 27, as well as January 2. The NAT offices will be sporadically staffed during the holiday season, so please call ahead. Emergency assistance is always available 24 hours a day / seven days a week by using the side door at the police station, 311 Queen Street.

Garbage and Recycling Collection

Please be advised that there will be no garbage and recycling pickup on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. Garbage and recycle collection will take place December 26 and January 2. Routine schedules may not occur, so please set out containers by 7 am.

Fredericton Transit

On Saturday, December 24, the last Fredericton Transit buses will leave Kings Place at 5:15 pm. Transit will not operate on Christmas Day, December 25, and Boxing Day, Monday, December 26.  Transit will operate as normal on December 27.  On Saturday, December 31, the last buses will depart Kings Place at 5:15 pm. The buses will not run on Sunday, January 1.  Transit will be back to its regular operational schedule on Monday, January 2, 2017.  For more information, call 506-460-2200, e-mail transit@fredericton.ca or search the transit schedule.

City of Fredericton Christmas Tree Recycling

Christmas Trees are collected at sites, chipped and recycled for compost. The annual Christmas Tree Recycling program runs from December 26, 2016 until January 20, 2017 and is one of the many ways that we can reduce waste, reuse and recycle. There are eight designated areas for Christmas Tree Recycling (signed disposal areas):

  1. Royal Road Park - Park parking lot adjacent to the Royal Road Fire Station
  2. Fulton Heights - School parking lot off main entrance to Nashwaaksis Middle School
  3. Devon – Trail Visitor Centre on Station Street
  4. Marysville Heritage Centre Facility - Parking lot off McGloin Street
  5. Kimble Drive - Vacant lot opposite the Fredericton Community Garden at 150 Kimble
  6. Odell Park - Park parking lot in corner of the lot off Waggoners Lane
  7. Queens Square Park - Park parking lot adjacent to pool building off Aberdeen
  8. Angelview Park - Park parking lot off Woodstock Road

For staff and equipment safety please DO NOT leave wreaths, artificial trees or any other materials that are not natural Christmas Trees. This includes the removal of all stands, tinsel, ornaments, screws, plastic, strings, nails and wires, as these objects are not recyclable.

Fredericton Pool and Arenas Holiday Hours

The Growth & Community Services Department advises the public of the following closures at the Fredericton Indoor Pool and city arenas for the holiday period.

The Fredericton Indoor Pool will shut down for annual maintenance at 9pm on December 18, 2016 and will remain closed until 11:30 am on Tuesday, January 3, 2017.

The indoor pool front desk will be open for regular business hours – 8:15 am to 4:30 pm – from December 19-23 and again December 28 - 30.

There will be a special holiday swim schedule in effect from January 3 – 6, 2017.

Fredericton's arenas will be closed at noon on December 24 and 31, and be closed all day on December 25, 26, 2016 and January 1, 2017, except for Willie O’Ree Place which will be open for the New Years Levee from 1:30 pm – 3 pm. The holiday skating schedule can be found in the Recreation & Leisure section of the City website.

City to host New Year’s Family Levee and Free Skate

Mayor Mike O’Brien and members of Fredericton City Council will host a New Year’s Family Levee and free skate on January 1, 2017 at Willie O’Ree Place, 605 Cliffe Street from 1:30 pm - 3 pm, a fun-filled, afternoon event designed to kick-off 2017.

Visitors are invited to connect with the mayor and members of Council in the Celebration of Sport Hall, off the arena lobby.  Take a spin on the ice or walking trail.  Enjoy light refreshments, while quantities last, and musical entertainment by local artists.

This event is in addition to Fredericton’s Canada 150 Kickoff New Year’s Eve Celebration on December 31, 2016.
