City Unveils Lian / Valcour Park Improvement Plan; Seeks Public Input

The City of Fredericton is seeking input from residents on the preliminary draft of its new Park Improvement Plan for a community park in the Lian Street and Valcour Drive area of the city. Plans and conceptual designs for the park were unveiled at a public meeting last night and are now available for public viewing and feedback on the city’s website at www.fredericton.ca/parkplans.

Recommendations for the new park space include:

  1. Primary multi-use trails that extend around the park site edge and are easily accessed from the surrounding neighbourhoods.
  2. Interior Pathways designated for hiking, cycling, and snowshoeing, among other similar minded activities.
  3. A multi-aged nature based events zone and play area.
  4. A large area of passive use outdoor space.

“We’re very happy with the preliminary park plan to serve the neighbourhoods surrounding Lian Street and Valcour Drive, and are encouraged by feedback from residents in the area,” said Coun. Stephen Chase, City Councillor for Ward 9. “The plan outlines a well balanced, mixed-use space with amenities for people of all ages. We’re looking forward to more community conversation, and using those suggestions to build a brand new park space to be enjoyed by generations to come.”

The Park Plan is based on public input and suggestions from residents and staff gathered at two separate information sessions in June 2018 and November 2016.

The preliminary plans for the Lian / Valcour Community Park will be available for viewing and discussion on the city’s website until November 2, 2018. Residents have until then to submit their comments online, or by emailing the City’s Growth and Community Services Department at planning@fredericton.ca.
