City’s Water Main Flushing Program Begins May 21

The City of Fredericton’s annual water main flushing program will begin on Monday, May 21, 2018 and is expected to continue until the week of July 23.  This work is necessary to remove loose sediments and mineral deposits from the water system and ensure a high quality of drinking water in Fredericton.

This year’s flushing schedule takes in the South Side Low System, which includes the Downtown Platt, up as far as Albert Street, Sunshine Gardens and Colonial Heights, and then out the Woodstock Road to Hartt Island Estates, as well as the entire North Side System.

Most of the City’s water main flushing program will be conducted during daylight hours, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The only exception will be from May 21 – 24 when flushing will be performed at night in the downtown area so as to not disrupt traffic and pedestrians. The following dates and times apply:

  • Monday, May 21, 9 pm to 7 am
  • Tuesday, May 22, 9 pm to 7 am
  • Wednesday, May 23, 9 pm to 9 am
  • Thursday, May 24, 9 pm to 9 am

To check where flushing is being done; residents can visit the City of Fredericton’s website at  Weekly schedules will be posted indicating the areas to be flushed during the ten-week program.

Area residents may notice discoloured (turbid) water from their taps during these times and should check their water before doing laundry or preparing food.  The effect is temporary and should clear up quickly. If water discolouration persists, residents should contact Service Fredericton at 506-460-2020 or at
