First-ever Fredericton Bike Week planned

Get ready to dust off your bike and helmet and participate in some great community events. The City of Fredericton is proud to be the lead sponsor of the very first Fredericton Bike Week – a new nine-day festival being hosted from May 25 – June 2, 2019.

This citywide event is aimed at bringing residents, businesses and organizations together to promote active transportation, safe cycling, community-building and an active, healthy and environmentally responsible lifestyle through cycling.

City Engineering and Recreation staff have helped organize the inaugural Bike Week along with other Steering Committee members representing local businesses, organizations and institutions. The City will host a Bike Week Kick-off event at the back of Officers’ Square on Saturday, May 25, 2019 from 10:00am – 1:00pm.

The event will feature information and demonstrations from various organizations and businesses, including a kids’ bike rodeo presented by FredKid.  City staff will be on-site with activities and information, including Fredericton Transit with a bus to demonstrate proper use of the transit bike racks.

Other activities planned throughout the festival include daily guided bike rides by Folks on Spokes, bike maintenance workshops hosted by UNB and Radical Edge, a Botanists on Bikes tour hosted by The Ville Cooperative, and much more. Fredericton Recreation will host two events on Sunday, June 2, 2019:  a group trail and jump ride at the Dirt Jump Skills Parks located next to the Grant-Harvey Centre and an Open Bike session to try jumps and ramps at the Northside Youth Centre located at Willie O’Ree Place.
