Fredericton Growth Strategy Recommended For Adoption

The Fredericton Growth Strategy has been presented to members of Fredericton’s Council-in-Committee and forwarded to City Council with a recommendation that the Growth Strategy be adopted.  The proposed Growth Strategy will set the framework for where and how the city should grow over the next 25 years, as well as guide policy development for a new Municipal Plan.

“This Strategy is key to Fredericton’s future growth,” said Mayor Mike O’Brien.  “I want to thank all those who have participated in perhaps the most extensive public consultation effort in the city’s history. More than 3,000 residents volunteered their time to provide input, 1,500 submitted surveys, and 18,000 followed our progress online.  It is only with the public’s help, best practice research, and hard work, we now have a guiding document that reflects the community’s goals.”

Based on the community’s preferred growth scenario, the draft Growth Strategy envisions a compact, efficient and sustainable city.  This will be achieved by creating a more vibrant urban core, walkable neighbourhoods with local amenities, and enhanced mobility options.

Imagine Fredericton, launched in June 2016, is the community-based process to create a Growth Strategy and new Municipal Plan for Fredericton, the first new comprehensive plan for the city in a generation.  The Fredericton Growth Strategy was released for public review and comment in May 2017 and is available to view on the Imagine Fredericton website at www.imaginefredericton.ca or on the City’s website at www.fredericton.ca/imaginefredericton.
