Outdoor Pools Get Community Enhancements for Summer 2019

Many Fredericton area residents will be able to find that lakeside relaxation feeling a little closer to home this summer, as three neighbourhood municipal pools are set to receive a facelift in time for the 2019 outdoor swimming season.  The pool enhancements were announced at meeting of the City’s Community Services Committee today.

In response to community feedback, the Henry Park, Royal Road and Queen Square Pools will all receive improved seating options, enhanced outdoor pool patios and increased community locker spaces for summer 2019.  Similar enhancements for the Marysville Pool will follow in 2020.

“Each outdoor pool patio will be able to seat between 15 and 20 people,” said Coun. Henri Mallet, Chair of the City’s Community Services Committee.  “The new seating area provides folks with the opportunity to relax in their very own neighbourhood oasis.  Parents and guardians can now safely watch their children swim and play from the comfort of a nearby Adirondack chair, without the inconvenience of having to shower or change into a bathing suit themselves.”

The outdoor pool enhancements are part of a greater plan to expand recreational programs for 2019 and improve the customer user experience, and follow a pilot of the concept completed at the Queen Square outdoor pool at the end summer 2018.  Details on additional new programming and potential enhancements will be announced soon.
