Use Caution in School Zones

Most school zones in Fredericton are reduced from 50km/h maximum to a 30 km/h maximum. These zones are posted as 30km/h maximum. Many of these school zones have a driver feedback sign that displays the driver’s speeds as they enter the school zone. Remember not to increase your speed until after passing the school zone ends sign.

In many areas around Fredericton, crossing guards are present at specific crosswalks. Crossing guards assist our children to cross the road safety. Crossing guards can be recognized by the traffic vest they wear and the stop sign paddle they use. When a crossing guard is in the crosswalk, drivers must stop at least 5 meters from the crosswalk. Failing to do this carries a penalty of $292.50 and a loss of 3 demerit points.

Also remember, do not drive distracted. If you are using your phone, you may not see the crossing guard or our children entering the roadway until it to too late. Leave the phone alone!
