City of Fredericton Flood News Releases

Following are the news releases issued by the City of Fredericton during the 2008 Flood:

May 5, 2008 - City Releases Details of 2008 Flood Debris Pick-Up Program - The City of Fredericton has released the details of its 2008 Flood Debris Pick-Up Program, which begins Tuesday, May 6 for residents whose homes and property have suffered water damage or are littered with flood debris.

May 5, 2008 - Be Careful Around Your Home and City Recreational Areas - Residents affected by the 2008 Flood are encouraged to walk around their yard to inspect for any hazardous materials that may have been left behind such as propane tanks, sharp material or other debris. 

May 4, 2008 - Recovery Program Begins For City Flood Victims -  For most City residents, the flood is all but over. But for those whose homes or businesses were swamped by the Flood of 2008 the road to recovery, which could take weeks or even months for some, begins officially on Monday.

May 3, 2008 - Streets Start to Open As Water Levels Recede - As flood levels start to recede in Fredericton, several streets that were covered by water have started to re-open.  While many residential streets are still affected, most of the major roads along the river have reopened for traffic.

May 2, 2008 - River Level to Remain High During Weekend - Approximately 680 evacuees from the greater Fredericton area registered with the Canadian Red Cross will have to wait for a few more days before returning to their homes. A major flood warning remains in effect.

May 1, 2008 - City Officials Call for Caution As Flood Closes 50 Streets - The St. John River rose to 8.33 metres and flowed over its banks and into the downtown Fredericton overnight, leaving most businesses along the river side of the city's main street closed and without power... 

April 30, 2008 - City Braces For Major Flood Event - The director of the City's Emergency Operations Centre is urging residents stay out of the downtown core as flood waters rise today to 8.6 metres, very close to the level of 1973 flood, which was among the worst in the city's history...

April 29, 2008 - River Expected to Rise to Highest Level in a Decade - The St. John River in the Fredericton area will rise to 7.4 metres tomorrow and crest at 8.2 metres on Thursday, the highest level in a decade...
