The following guidelines have been approved for the establishment of crossing guard locations in Fredericton. The guidelines follow the Transportation Association of Canada recommendations and have been enhanced to reflect local conditions.
Crossing guard locations are determined based on one or all of the following criteria:
1. The number of chrildren crossing during the morning peak period is greater than 10.
2. Traffic volumes on the major street are greater than 200 vehicles per hour.
3. Children are crossing to school at uncontrolled crossings, stop sign controlled crossings and traffic signal controlled crossings that exhibit unique characteristics that may pose safety issues.
