Twas Christmas Eve and time for bed
A family plans the day ahead
Yet ere the night should bring the worst
They’re putting fire safety first
Dad will check the smoke alarm
Their first defence should fire come
Mom will snuff those candles bright
While junior dims the Christmas lights
Sis unplugs the frying pan
They all rehearse the safety plan
Bedroom doors are shut up tight
While sleeping soundly through the night
And if there’s smoke they stay down low
And always have two ways to go
A window should the door be hot
A tree their special meeting spot
And somewhere neath a starry sky
Are firefighters standing by
This eve may bring a night so rare
The morn, a family’s grief to share
They wait knowing the price is hefty
Not everyone practices fire safety
