Crossing Guard Program

Photo of Crossing Guard ProgramThe Fredericton Police Force administers the crossing guard program in Fredericton.  The intent is to keep students safe as they walk to and from school, with a special focus on elementary school students.

The program is guided by a set of guidelines approved by Fredericton City Council in August 2009. These guidelines are as a result of a review carried out by the Fredericton Police Force and the City of Fredericton Engineering and Public Works Department, with input from School District 18.

The guidelines, which follow the Transportation Association of Canada recommendations and have been enhanced to reflect local conditions.  To view the guidelines or a map of the crossing guard locations in Fredericton, click the link under Related Content.

The Fredericton Police Force also hires crossing guards.  Crossing guards get paid minimum wage and work three hours a day.  There is always a need for crossing guards.  Anyone interested in being a crossing guard can contact the Fredericton Police Force at 460-2300.
