Fire Department Issues BBQ Safety Checklist

Fredericton (April6, 2010) – The Fredericton Fire Department urges everyone to take a few minutes to think safety before firing up their barbecue now that warmer weather has arrived.

  • Check all connections for leaks by applying soap and water, especially after refilling your tank.
  • Check rubber hoses for signs of cracking
  • Make sure your barbeque is at least one meter from any combustible.
  • To eliminate a build up of gas in your barbeque always open the lid before you turn it on and light it.
  • When buying a new barbeque make sure it meets CSA or ULC certification.
  • Never store propane cylinders inside a residence

Have a safe barbeque season. A safety message from the Fredericton Fire Department
