Career opportunities exist with the Fredericton Police Force in many areas including Patrol Division, Neighbourhood Action Team, Major Crime Section, Traffic, and Forensic Identification Section, to name a few. The Force is self-sufficient, offering members opportunities for experience with the Emergency Response Team, Crowd Management Team, Canine Unit, or Underwater Recovery Team, among others.

Overview of our Selection Process:
1. Preliminary Screening
2. Physical Testing & Interview Board
The Human Resource Department will review your application against the job specifications for Police Constable and check your qualifications as set out in the New Brunswick Police Act. Police Management and the Human Resources Department will conduct a second screening, to create a short list of candidates selected for physical testing and interviews. An electronic Application Package is then forwarded, via email, to qualifying candidates. The candidate will be required to complete and mail in a hard copy of the application package by the date specified.The Physical Abilities Requirement Evaluation (PARE) is a job-related, physical ability test, which is a condition of employment as a regular member with the Fredericton Police Force. You are responsible for arranging for your PARE test once you receive the application package. A person CANNOT take the PARE test without first obtaining a medical clearance report from a qualified physician. The form must be presented to the PARE Tester at the time of testing. You will meet with an interview board, consisting of The Chief of Police and/or the Deputy-Chief, an Inspector and Human Resource Officer, for a one-hour interview. Questions will relate to leadership, planning, operational knowledge, service delivery, teamwork, communication and overall suitability to our organization. We use competency-based, situational and general interview questions.
3. Pre-employment Interview and Background ChecksSuccessful candidates will be required to undergo a secondary interview as well as a thorough background check.
4. Offer of EmploymentSuccessful applicants will be contacted in writing by the City of Fredericton offering employment and citing stipulations. Salary will be based on experience and the current collective agreement.
5. Orientation and Probationary PeriodNewly hired officers will receive seven shifts of orientation with the Training Section and will then be assigned to a Coach officer, for a minimum of 32 shifts to a maximum of 60 shifts. Officers serve a 12-month probationary period.
