Security Clearance
Criminal Record Checks and Fingerprinting are provided only for residents of the City of Fredericton. All others must go to the police agency serving the area in which they reside.
- Employment Purposes
- Volunteer Work
- Immigration
All persons requiring security clearance for employment purposes, volunteer positions or immigration must attend a Fredericton City Payment Centre during business hours and make application. Be sure to bring two pieces of identification ie., Drivers License, Birth Certificate, Passport, Medicare etc., one bearing a photo and signature, at the time of application.
The applicant must:
- Criminal Record Check - Complete an Application for Clearance Letter or Criminal Conviction Sheet, (also available at the City Payment Centre) stating the reason for the application. Applicants volunteering for service in the community should bring documentation explaining this to receive the benefit of a reduced rate.
- Vulnerable Sector Screening - If the nature of work places the applicant in a position of trust over vulnerable persons, (youth, the elderly, mentally or physically challenged, addicted persons), a waiver must be signed permitting the screening for existing pardons. Applicants must bring a letter from the organization or individual requesting that they have the vulnerable sector screening performed, explaining the nature of the employment or volunteer work and the specific sector that they will be in a position of trust over. Applicants should be aware, that Police may request the applicant to submit to fingerprinting, which may involve an additional charge, and will in turn be sent to the RCMP to compare to existing pardons for sex offences on their vulnerable sector database. This process may cause a delay in the receipt of your clearance.
- Picking up your Clearance Letter - Two pieces of identification must be presented at the Fredericton Police Force Headquarters, 311 Queen Street, Fredericton, New Brunswick, ,as mentioned above, when the Clearance Letter is picked up.
