In 2002 a total of 53 589 fires were reported in Canada. In these, 304 people died and over 2 500 were injured. The dollar loss associated with these fires was almost $1.5 Billion.
The "residential property" classification accounted for the largest number of fires and fatalities, claiming 250 lives.
