Photo of firefighters trainingIn 2002 a total of 53 589 fires were reported in Canada. In these, 304 people died and over 2 500 were injured.  The dollar loss associated with these fires was almost $1.5 Billion.

The "residential property" classification accounted for the largest number of fires and fatalities, claiming 250 lives.

In 2004 there were over 2,000 fires in our province.  Those fires resulted in 10 fatalities, 48 injuries and over $14 million in fire loss.  See Annual Fire Marshal's report, 2004 (Province of New Brunswick) for more details.
