When it comes to preparing your firefighters for fire and rescue missions there is no substitute for live fire training. At the City of Fredericton we recognize this certainty and have built one of the most advanced training facilities in the region. Our state of the art Tower can accommodate nearly every conceivable fire training operation covering a whole range of scenarios; residential and commercial structures; shipboard firefighting, confined space, rappelling, and even ERT team operations.
The main center accommodates class room/theoretical training where 40 people can be comfortably seated. The facility which is wireless; also has in-floor power and computer wiring. A/V technologies such as Smart Board and Overhead Projection are standard fare.
Our spacious compound features pads for vehicle extrication and fire suppression, and one for extinguisher training, a large water tank for drafting, and two hydrants. Footing is also laid for future expansions to include a building for confined space training, and adjacent to the Tower will be a utility building furnished with toilets and shower facilities.
The four story Tower is designed with firefighter safety in mind. The complex live burn unit features safety cut offs at key points and achieves a maximum temperature threshold of 500 degrees Fahrenheit. It features props for a stove, bed, electrical motor, and propane tanks, and is made complete with flash over. A portable control unit enabling the Instructor’s presence alongside the trainees offers added value. The Tower features roofs with different degrees of pitch making them ideal for perfecting ground and aerial ladder skills. The roofs and ceilings are fixed with props and replacement materials enabling ventilation practice. The tower features artificial training smoke which is easily directed to any or all levels simultaneously accommodating SCBA training. Steel stairways lead to each story and feature fire suppression sprinklers/standpipe. Inside level two are movable walls to create mazes enabling multiple scenario search options. Changing the wall configurations also prevent Fire Fighters from memorizing routes further challenging their skills.
Our facility is ideally suited to help your fire fighters perfect their skills in search and rescue, forced entry, confined space, fire suppression and salvage missions. We invite you to experience first hand how our training tower facility will increase your Fire Fighter’s confidence and skills resulting in their preparedness and the safety of your community.
