Share the Trail
Fredericton’s 85-kilometre long trail system is one of the city’s most widely used recreation resources. It is also an important transportation network.
Paving key sections of the trail system – a recommendation of the 2008 Trails / Bikeways Master Plan – has made the trail network more accessible to all kinds of users.
For a more enjoyable and safer trail experience, several common rules of etiquette should be observed:
- Keep right, except when passing
- “Wheels yield to heels” – Cyclists and other wheeled transportation modes should give way to walkers and joggers
- Ring bike bell when passing. Wear your helmet.
- Don’t block the trail – Groups should avoid using more than half the trail. Stand to the side when chatting with friends and acquaintances.
- Obey all signs
- You may want to walk your bike / skateboard, etc., in congested areas of the trail
- Stay on designated trails
- Be careful when entering the trail or crossing city streets
- Respect privacy of adjacent property owners
- All dogs must be on a leash when on the trails
- Pick up after your dog
