Old Train Bridge

General Information

The Old Train Bridge was converted for use by pedestrians and cyclists in 1997.  The bridge is a major hub for the trail system as it crosses the Saint John River and connects trails on the north and south sides of the Saint John River. The Old Train Bridge is an easy 15-minute walk from the center of the City.

Parking

Metered parking is available on Queen St. near the Beaverbrook Art Gallery. Free parking is available at the Lady Beaverbrook Rink on University Ave 600m from the South end of the bridge on the Lincoln trail and also at the Trail Visitor Centre on Station St. 300m from the north end of the bridge on the Nashwaak Trail.

Accessibility

The trail has a smooth and level crusher dust surface which makes it easily accessible to all users. There is a short grade on the trail at either end of the bridge.

Things to see and do

The bridge is a meeting place for residents and visitors alike. You will almost always run into neighbors or friends. There are tremendous views of the city and it is a major connection for walkers and cyclists traveling to work, shopping or entertainment. It is an easy stroll to hotels, restaurants, shopping and The Old Garrison District. It is the centerpiece of the Fredericton Trail System and is a "must see". Bicycles are available for rent at the Lighthouse Adventure Centre.

Facilities (Bathrooms, Drinking fountains etc.)

There are bathrooms and drinking fountains available at the Lighthouse Adventure Centre and the Trail Visitor Centre. Follow the signs for directions.

Natural Environment

A gentle breeze is usually present on the bridge as you stroll on a warm evening. You'll have a great view of the Saint John River and you will often see Osprey, Bald Eagles and Great Blue Heron
