Salamanca

General Information

The Salamanca Trail is an extension of the South Riverfront Trail. It is 1.2 km in length and is a secluded walk along the Saint John River. It is a 10 minute walk from the South end of the Old Train bridge to the beginning of the trail and then an easy 10 minute walk one way. One can return to the Old Train bridge by crossing the Lincoln Road under the Princess Margaret Bridge and then follow the Lincoln trail back to towards the Downtown core. Follow the signs

Parking

Parking is available at Morell Park on Waterloo Row near the ball field.

Accessibility

The trail has a smooth and level crusher dust surface which makes it easily accessible to all users. The trail is not quite as wide as some city trails and passes through a secluded wooded area.

Things to see and do

The trail offers a secluded walk that can be combined with the Lincoln Trail to create a loop that is a 1 hour walk along the river and then back to the Downtown Core. The trail passes by the Loyalist Burial ground and a small covered bridge crossing a stream that is an ideal location for photos.

Facilities (Bathrooms, Drinking fountains etc.)

There is a portable toilet at the beginning of the trail at Morell park but there are no other facilities

Natural Environment

The trail passes through a flood plain along the Saint John River. Red Maples, Silver Maples, Ferns and other wetland plant life can be seen along with ducks and other birds and animals. There is an occupied Osprey nesting pole near the princess Margaret bridge along the trail
