The traffic pattern change will better serve customers using the East End Parking Garage, Fredericton Convention Centre, Hilton Garden Inn, and the Fredericton Playhouse.  It will allow for the loading and unloading of charter / tour buses directly on the sidewalk.

The change to the traffic pattern was approved in June 2016 by Fredericton City Council.  As part of previous infrastructure renewal efforts, this stretch of street has already been reconfigured to allow for two-way traffic.  New signage and lane markings will be installed to guide traffic just prior to the switch over.

Resulting traffic changes to nearby streets include:

  • Pointe-Sainte-Anne Boulevard (southbound).  New signage and lane markings on Pointe-Sainte-Anne Boulevard, at the Queen Street intersection will be installed.  The left lane will become a left turning lane only.  The right lane will become a straight through / right turning lane.
  • Regent Street (northbound), between Queen Street and King Street.  New signage and lane markings will be installed, allowing for left turn, dedicated straight through and shared through / right turn lanes at Queen Street.
  • Regent Street (southbound), between Queen Street and King Street.  Off peak parking will be removed from the west side of Regent Street on this block.  Left turns will no longer be permitted from Regent Street to King Street at this intersection. Motorists must continue on Regent Street to Brunswick Street to make a left turn or turn left on Queen Street. New signage and lane markings will be installed.
  • Left Turn Movements. All permitted left turn movements from Regent Street onto Queen, King, and Brunswick Streets will feature advanced left turn arrows operating with vehicle actuation.
