Truck Routes

Fredericton designates certain roads as truck routes in order to help protect the physical structure of the roads, and to protect residential neighbourhoods and other areas not well suited for the size, noise, and nuisance associated with large trucks.

Truck route signage, both permissive and restrictive, is strategically located throughout the City to guide trucking companies. Trucks that are restricted to truck routes are commercial vehicles having more than two axles, or a registered gross vehicle mass of more than 10000 kg.

Whether coming in to, going out of, or travelling within the city, trucks must use provincial routes or municipal streets designated in By-Law T-1. Through trucking must remain on designated truck routes and deliveries must be made using the shortest distance from a truck route to the point of delivery or pick up.

Trucking companies are required to obtain permits when hauling oversized loads.
