Fredericton (March 6, 2008) - Starting March 10, passengers on City buses will be asked for their opinion on how well Fredericton's public transportation system is working and what they would like to see improved over the next decade.
"We will be handing out survey cards on our buses and asking passengers to tell us what they think of the system and how can we make it better," said Councillor Marilyn Kerton, Chair of the City's Transportation Committee. "This will be an important part of the public consultation process that is being planned as we develop a new Transit Master Plan for the City of Fredericton."
The ridership survey is one of three major components of the consultation process being put in place by Dillon Consulting Limited, the company hired by the City last November to develop the Transit Master Plan at a cost of $60,000.
The other two legs of the consultation process include meetings with stakeholder groups followed by a public meeting to present the draft Transit Master Plan and obtain further public feedback, which will be used to draft the report's final recommendations. The public meeting will be held in April after the data collection phase has been completed.
Fredericton Transit passengers will be asked to fill out a survey card and leave it with the driver.
Representatives from key stakeholder groups who would like to express an opinion should mail it to the Transit Master Plan, City of Fredericton, P.O. Box 130, Fredericton, N.B. E3B 4Y7 or by email at transitstudy@fredericton.ca.
The study is scheduled for completion by Spring 2008. Meeting notices and updates will be posted on City of Fredericton website at http://www.fredericton.ca/en/transportation/transitstrategicplan.asp. You can also leave comments on the website.
The Transit Division of the City of Fredericton provides transit services on eight routes, six days a week. The City fleet consists of 28 urban transit buses, which carry more than one million passengers a year.
