Fredericton (October 24, 2008) - The next public meeting aimed at giving residents a chance to provide their input into an update of the Capital City Traffic Study is scheduled for Monday, October 27 at Willie O’Ree Place, 605 Cliffe Street, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The study is a comprehensive master plan, which will serve as a guide for road and street development in Fredericton for the next decade.
“Public consultation is an important and essential step as we plan for the future development of our City,” said Councillor Bruce Grandy, Chair of the City’s Transportation Committee. “I encourage anyone who would like to provide their comments or learn more about this study to attend these meetings.”
ADI Limited was awarded a $150,000 contract in July 2008 to undertake a comprehensive review of the Fredericton’s current traffic patterns and provide City Council with recommendations on how to prioritize improvements that address current traffic issues, changes in infrastructure, and future travel demands.
The Capital City Traffic Study was first released in 2000 and incorporated in the City’s Municipal Plan. The current review is expected to identify traffic issues and opportunities to improve the operations of the City’s transportation network
Using state-of-the art computer modeling software, ADI will predict the impact on traffic of future development and highlight on a priority basis any areas that need to be addressed. The study is being co-funded by the City of Fredericton and the Province of New Brunswick.
“Significant capital projects have been completed in Fredericton since 2000 and we are continuing to experience strong growth in the housing, commercial, industrial, and service sectors,” said Coun. Grandy. “This new plan will help us understand existing traffic patterns and the impact that future development will have on traffic patterns. Also, the traffic study will help us evaluate potential solutions.”
