Road Construction 2011

Photo of Road Closures Will Be Necessary To Upgrade, Sustain City InfrastructureAnnual repairs to the roads, curbs, sidewalks, traffic signals, crosswalks, as well as water & sewer pipes throughout the City of Fredericton are either currently under way or planned as part of the City of Fredericton 2011 road construction program.

Listed on this page are the projects that are expected to cause significant traffic disruptions involving street closures as the City works to build and maintain infrastructure in a sustainable and affordable manner. The start and completion dates will be added when available.

LIST OF PROJECTS

Princess Margaret Bridge

The Princess Margaret Bridge in Fredericton is closed for major repairs. With more than 20,000 vehicles a day using the bridge, there will be a significant impact on traffic patterns in the Capital Region. Due to the wet summer weather, Fredericton's Princess Margaret Bridge will now be reopening in mid-October. Click here for more information.

Springhill Road

Springhill Road wasl be closed to all traffic between Monteith Drive and MacIntosh Street beginning Monday morning, May 16. This closure was necessary to extend services to a new development in the area. Springhill Road is now open to traffic.

St. Mary's Street

St. Marys Street will be closed to all traffic just north of the Co-op gas bar beginning Monday, June 6. The closure was necessary for construction crews to perform roadway upgrades. St. Mary's St is now open to the public. Click here for more information.

Brookside Drive

The City of Fredericton Engineering and Public Works Department wishes to advise motorists that beginning Wednesday August 24th, Brookside Drive will be closed to all traffic between Heron Drive and Peters Drive.  This closure is necessary for construction crews to perform roadway upgrades.Vehicles travelling on Brookside Drive in this area will be required to detour via Heron Drive, Alex Street and Peters Drive.  Construction and detour signs will be in place to warn motorists of the closure and to guide motorists through the detour route. This closure is expected to be in place for (4) weeks.

Charlotte Street

The City of Fredericton Engineering and Public Works Department wishes to advise motorists that beginning Monday, August 8, construction is scheduled to begin on Charlotte Street between Carlton Street and Regent Street. Construction signs and flag persons will be in place to warn and to guide motorists through the affected area. Construction crews expect to be in the area for approximately three (3) weeks.

Forest Hill Road

Forest Hill Road was closed from the intersection of Waterloo Row and Beaverbrook Street to the intersection of Forest Acres Court for ten weeks for the replacement of the water and sanitary sewer system. The project is now complete and Forest Hill is now open for traffic.

Wright Street

Wright Street will be closed to through traffic at Edinburgh Street for the upgrade of the water and sanitary sewer system. The City of Fredericton Engineering and Public Works Department wishes to advise motorists that beginning Monday July 25th, Wright Street will be closed to all through traffic.  This closure is expected to be in place for (8) weeks.

Longwood Drive

The second phase of Longwood Drive water and sanitary sewer upgrading project will commence in June and be completed in September.  Construction will be completed between Lilac Crescent and Woodmount.

MacLaren Avenue

MacLaren Avenue was closed from School Street and Forbes Street for five weeks to allow construction crews to perform infrastructure upgrades.  While the street will be fully open during peak hours, traffic restrictions will occur periodically to facilitate curbing and paving operations for the remainder of the week.

McLeod Hill Road

The lower part of McLeod Hill Road at Royal Road upgraded including the extension of water and sewer system and an upgrade to the road.   This project will be completed by the end of September.

River Street

The City of Fredericton Engineering and Public Works Department wishes to advise motorists that weather dependant beginning Tuesday morning, September 6th, River Street will be closed to all traffic just south of the Penniac Bridge.  This closure is necessary to replace a large culvert in the area. Vehicles travelling in this area will be required to detour via the Penniac Bridge and Canada Street.  Construction and detour signs will be in place to warn motorists of the closure and to guide motorists through the detour route.  This closure is expected to be in place for (7) days.

Clark Street 

Clark Street is scheduled to be closed to through traffic beginning Monday July 25.  City crews will be upgrading/rebuilding the roadway, access will be maintained to all businesses and residents.Construction crews are expected to be in the area for approximately (8) days.

Canada Street Retaining Wall Construction

The City of Fredericton Engineering and Public Works Department wishes to advise motorists that beginning Tuesday September 6th, Canada Street will be closed to all through traffic between Kaine Street and Miller Street intersections. Vehicles will be required to detour via Kaine Street and Miller Street.  Construction signs will be in place to warn motorists of the closure and to guide motorists through the detour route. This closure is necessary to rebuild a retaining wall and is expected to be in place for (4) weeks.
