The City of Fredericton released the final draft of its pedestrian safety study on April 19, 2012 as part of the ongoing goal to improve the pedestrian experience in the City. This document is to serve as the foundation for the City of Fredericton’s overall pedestrian safety strategy. See the PowerPoint under RELATED CONTENT for highlghts of the study. More information can be obtained by contacting Engineering & Public Works.
The study is being coordinated by Opus International Consultants (Canada) Limited, a professional consulting firm with expertise in traffic engineering and safety. The process is being guided at the municipal level by a steering committee including staff from Engineering & Public Works, Police, Parks & Trees, and Development Services.
The scope of the project is to look at pedestrian crossing issues in Fredericton … what works and what doesn’t. This will include stakeholder and public consultation and surveys, a safety review of existing crosswalks and trail crossings, an analysis of local issues, a review of best practices, and the development of guidelines that will provide the foundation for improved pedestrian safety in Fredericton.
