The Capital City Traffic Study was conducted in close consultation and consistent liaison with the Study Steering Committee, comprised of City staff representatives of the Engineering & Public Works, Development Services, and Corporate Services Departments. Progress Statements were submitted by the Consultant and meetings were held on a monthly basis with the Steering Committee to present and confirm work completed, and to receive input and guidance on work ahead.
Public input was received through a series of public input sessions held at northside and southside locations. All comments were documented, and those in common grouped together for presentation and discussion with the Steering Committee. Each comment or group of comments were then categorized according to whether they would be addressed by the Consultant as part of the study, or whether they could be addressed by staff. In total 139 different comments were received. Public input was also received informally by the Consultant and the City, or from issues arising at Council and Transportation Committee meetings. These issues were discussed at the Steering Committee meetings as they arose throughout the duration of the study.
In addition, personal interviews were held with representatives of a number of City departments and key stakeholders not represented by the Steering Committee. They included the City Police, City Fire Department, City Transit, City Community Services Department, St. Marys First Nation, Fredericton Chamber of Commerce, Main St. Business Development Association and the Downtown Fredericton Business Network.
