Fredericton (Januaty 9, 2009) - A dramatic two-page full-colour photo of an expressive, beaming Buddy Guy performing at the 2008 Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival, opens a massive 12-page spread on Fredericton and New Brunswick in this month's edition of a key British lifestyles and travel magazine.
The just-released January edition of Choice, with a readership of 250,000 potential visitors, aimed at an affluent, middle-aged audience, features an extensive story on New Brunswick under the headline "Secret Canada uncovered."
The magazine describes New Brunswick as "one of those rare places the world is only waking up to" and Fredericton as the "friendliest of cities."
"The coverage we received is really terrific. It's extremely rare to get this kind of extensive coverage in quality magazine and the 12-page article positions Fredericton beautifully," says David Seabrook, manager of Fredericton Tourism.
The article is timely with the recent announcement that direct flights from Canadian Affair/Air Transat between Fredericton and the United Kingdom will go ahead for the second year beginning April 28 and continuing until October 20.
"It's certainly timed perfectly. In conjunction with the Province's Tourism and Parks Department, Fredericton Tourism is working to increase awareness of New Brunswick in the British Market. So to get this article just as people are beginning their summer vacation planning is important," he adds.
Fredericton was the sole focus of the first four pages and featured photos and text showcasing the Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival, Government House, the Boyce Farmers Market, the Beaverbrook Art Gallery, Kings Landing Historical Settlement and Christ Church Cathedral.
The following pages in the article include information on the Appalachian Mountains, Hopewell Rocks, Cape Enrage, covered bridges, whale watching and the many connections between New Brunswick and Britain.
The article's writer and photographer were no accidental tourists. There were part of a press trip organized last September during the Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival organized and supported by New Brunswick's Tourism and Parks Department and Fredericton Tourism.
