Building Permit FAQ (PDF)

Permits are enforced by the City of Fredericton to ensure safety and livability for you, your neighbours, and future property owners and residents. Permits set standards for the health and safety of the citizens, and help maintain the reputation of Fredericton as a great place to live, work and do business.

The City issues permits for the development, construction and use of all commercial, industrial, institutional or residential properties and buildings.

If you do not have a permit for work that has already started or work for which you need a permit, you could face serious consequences, including financial penalties, work delays, having to undo the work you’ve done, and even possible legal action. Make sure you start your project out on the right foot and get the proper permit first.
