Fredericton / City Hall / City council

John MacDermid

Councillor, Ward 10

(West Downtown & Plat/Sunshine Gardens)

John MacDermid is proud to call Fredericton home. Having spent his formative years in Halifax, another ten in Vancouver, he moved to Fredericton ten years ago and has been an active community member ever since.

This is Councillor MacDermid’s first full term on City Council since being elected in an October 2013 by-election. In his first tenure on Council, he served as Chair of the Transportation Committee, as a member of the Community Services Committee and the Development Committee among other things.

In his work outside of Council, John is a celebrated commercial, event, landscape and nature photographer and was recently named one of New Brunswick’s top emerging artists for photography. Before shifting his professional focus full time to photography, John spent time as a news reporter for CBC Radio One in both Fredericton and Vancouver and as a sales professional in a wide range of industries.

Councillor MacDermid is a board member for Capital City Cycles, the Fredericton Public Library, and Fredericton Sunrise Rotary. He’s a member of the Canadian Association of Photographic Art and past-president of ConnexionARC, formerly known as Gallery Connexion, Fredericton’s artist run gallery. Councillor MacDermid lives downtown, in Ward 10 with his wife Meaghan Seagrave.
