FAQs
About Voyent
What is the difference between Alert Fredericton / Voyent Alerts and the alerts that I have received in the past on my phone?
The alerts that are broadcasted on phones, televisions, radios, etc. are issued through the Alert Ready system. Our alerts are sent through Voyent Alert!, an independent emergency management system that is subscription-based and used for municipal emergencies. The Alert Ready program is often used by the Government of New Brunswick and the RCMP.
When are alerts issued?
Alerts are issued on an as-required basis. In the event that a situation has a public safety risk, alerts can be issued. This could include, for instance, evacuations or localized flooding. You also have the option of opting into some day-to-day communications such as garbage and recycling information or municipal facility updates.
Will I receive a lot of unwanted alerts?
No. You will only ever receive a notification if it is relevant to a location or a specific topic you have selected. This will change in the future as more alert types are added. To identify which topics you would like to subscribe to, visit the “My Topics” menu on your Voyent Alert! Account.
Does Voyent! collect personal information?
No. The only information required to register is a postal code or address and a phone number or email address. No other personal information such as your name, address, or date of birth is required. Please see the
Voyent Alert! Privacy Policy at voyent-alert.com for more details.
Is training required to use this service?
No. Voyent Alert! is very simple to use.
When you first register, helpful hints are included to guide you in setting up your account. If you ever get stuck, click on the “?” on the side of the screen or in your app for assistance. Additional support can be found on the Voyent Alert Frequently Asked Questions page (Voyent-alert.com/ca/community) where you can also submit a question directly. You can also contact the City’s communication department at
communications@fredericton.ca or call Service Fredericton at 506-460-2020.
Who issues the alerts?
Some emergency alerts will be issued by the City’s Emergency Measures Command Centre. Alerts that are not issued as emergency alerts (ie: recycling notices, etc.) are issued by the City’s Communications Department or the department responsible for the work (e.g.: Roadway Operations, Recreation).
I live outside city limits but would still like to receive alerts. Can I still register?
Yes. If you are outside of the City of Fredericton you can still register to receive alerts. Simply enter “Fredericton” or a Fredericton address on the registration page to get started. Once registered, you can either move your “home” pin or create a new one for other locations of interest to you.
Can I decide what type of alerts I receive?
Yes, subscribers can choose which type of alerts they receive. When you log in, you can select which notifications you receive under the “My Topics“ tab. Critical alerts will go out to subscribers regardless of whether you have opted in.
Will the alerts be broadcasted on my phone, even if it is on silent?
No, these alerts will be issued as text messages for those that opt-in via their mobile number, via the Voyent app, or to an email for those who subscribe via email. In the event of a critical alert where the public must be alerted immediately, the alerting sound will override your phone settings.
My family member got an alert message, but I didn’t. Why not?
There are several reasons that someone you know may have received an alert, but you did not. First, you must be opted-into alerts to ensure they go to either your phone via text, Voyant app, and/or to your email. Secondly, alerts can be geo-targeted, meaning they are only issued to those that are impacted. For a City-wide emergency, for instance, everyone would receive an alert. For a specific neighborhood emergency, the alert(s) would be targeted to the specific area. Alerts can be geo-targeted based on the addresses associated with your profile.
Do I have to be in Fredericton to receive an alert?
No. Provided you are connected to a mobile service or can access your email, the alerts will get to you wherever you are, even if you are outside of Fredericton. The City of Fredericton will only issue alerts for locations within city limits

App Store or
Google Play Store or use the web registration to receive email or text alerts.
Can visitors to the community register for Voyent Alert?
