Barker’s Point Cenotaph and Veterans Memorial Park complete

We will remember them… Work on the relocated Barker’s Point Cenotaph and Veterans Memorial Park is complete.

The project was made possible by $7,400 in funding from Veterans Affairs Canada’s Commemorative Partnership Program and $17,400, as well as in-kind labour from the City of Fredericton. It followed requests by the local Legion to find a more favourable location for the memorial.

Originally located on the side of the road near the Watters Drive & Riverside Drive intersection, where there was poor access, the new location is just up the street at the corner of Watters Drive & Carmen Avenue, with easy access and ample parking.

Work on the site, which is a former gas station turned greenspace, involved the refurbishment of the stone cenotaph, as well as landscaping around existing trees, the installation of new brick pathways, and the planting of new shrubs and four oak trees – a common symbol of strength and endurance.
