Fredericton Transit returns to afternoon service

Fredericton Transit is thrilled to announce the return to regular afternoon service on Monday, April, 11, 2022.

This means buses will run every half hour from 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., then back to hourly between 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. Buses will continue to run every half hour from 6:15 a.m. until 10 a.m., hourly between 10 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

The change does not affect the morning transit schedule, which will continue to run every half hour from 6:15 a.m. until 10 a.m. and then hourly between 10 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

A shortage of transit operators, either retiring our taking leave for personal health reasons, forced Fredericton Transit to temporarily suspend afternoon service in the fall of 2021.

Since the beginning of the year, Fredericton Transit has hired and trained four new transit operators, bringing the total of full-time permanent operators to 28 and 15 part-time permanent operators

“Over the past few months, Fredericton Transit has been working hard to bring back afternoon service for transit users,” said Charlene Sharpe, manager of transit and parking services with the City of Fredericton.

“With the lifting of COVID-19 restrictions and many customers asking for the return of afternoon service, Fredericton Transit is anticipating a boost in ridership over the coming months.”

“I applaud Fredericton Transit for its commitment to the return of afternoon service,” Bruce Grandy, chair of the City’s Mobility Committee. “This service is invaluable to many Frederictonians, as it will get them to where they need to be in a more timely and efficient manner.”

Routes and other services provided by Fredericton Transit will remain the same.
