Killarney Lake Park beach, outdoor and indoor pools to open

In response to the Province’s COVID-19 Recovery Plan, and the move to the yellow recovery phase, City staff have provided an update to City Council on the gradual reopening of Fredericton Indoor Pool and an interim plan for Killarney Lake Park beach.

Fredericton Indoor Pool will open on Monday, June 8 with the following restrictions:

  • Lineups will be outdoors
  • NEW online booking and payment option, with an express lane at the pool for those who paid for swimming time online
  • Entry restricted to 50 people, increasing gradually to 75
  • Locker room / changing areas: Limited number of people; lockers and benches will be marked to ensure physical distancing
  • Lifeguards will enforce distancing
  • We recommend changing into your bathing suit at home.
  • Programs will have a 30- to 40-minute changeover period between groups for sanitization.
  • Please bring your own hand sanitizer
  • The June 8 opening is subject to provincial phasing requirements.

Fredericton Outdoor Pools (Queen’s Square, Royal Road, Henry Park, Marysville) will open Sunday June 21 with the following restrictions:

  • Limited number to 50 at each pool
  • NEW online booking with an express lane at the pool for those who booked time online
  • Daycares, groups, day camps limited to 12 per group
  • Physical distancing in locker room. Lockers available for use will be marked.
  • Programs will have a 30- to 40-minute changeover period between groups for sanitization.
  • To avoid two-way traffic, people will exit through gate on pool deck
  • There will be an opportunity to go directly through onto the deck with a bag, with a no touch thruway
  • Please change into your bathing suit at home to minimize time in the changing room
  • One pool ambassador at each pool at all times to ensure distancing and safety

Killarney Lake Park Beach

While Killarney Lake Park is open, swimming is currently unsupervised and residents swim at their own risk. Pending our COVID-19 safety review process, Killarney Lake will open June 21st with lifeguard supervision, and beach ambassadors to help maintain physical distancing and sanitizing washrooms on a regular basis.

The following interim measures will be in place for Killarney Lake Park beach, effective Friday, June 5:

  • Washrooms will be open
  • Signage in place reminding residents to keep physical distance
  • Garbage collection starts

These decisions follow an analysis of the Province’s Plan and related documents, as well as the City’s own two-step review process. That process is designed to ensure the safety of staff and the public, and to consider financial implications.
