Barricaded Man Taken Into Custody

A 20-year-old man has been taken into custody after he barricaded himself inside a residence on Burpee Street, on Fredericton’s Northside, earlier this evening.

Around 6:40 p.m. today, Wednesday, July 21, 2021, members of the Fredericton Police Force were dispatched to the 100-block of Burpee Street following reports that a young male was inside a residence with access to weapons, and threatening harm. There were no other individuals inside the home at the time, but in the interest of safety, nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution.

In addition to Patrol officers, Crisis Negotiators, the Emergency Response Team, Police Service Dog, Tactical Medical Services (TEMS), and Drugs and Street Crimes Officers also attended the scene.

The man exited the residence just before 8:00 p.m., and was taken into custody without incident.

He was transported to the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital for treatment of injuries unrelated to this evening’s call for service.
